An Earthy Herbal Tea of Dandelion, Burdock & Sarsaparilla Root
Detox Tea is a caffeine-free, loose-leaf herbal tea for after meals. Dandelion and burdock, the pairing behind the traditional British drink, are blended with barberry root, sarsaparilla and nettle leaf. Whole roots and leaves are used throughout, and each serving can be steeped twice.
The Herbs
Dandelion Root: acts as a mild digestive tonic to encourage smooth waste movement and reduce abdominal wind.
Barberry Root: offers robust liver-protective qualities, balancing the gut microbiome and supporting bile delivery.
Burdock Root: a dependable alterative herb that supports digestive comfort and reduces bloating
Sarsaparilla Root: provides excellent cooling and comforting properties that help process waste and balance internal fluid levels.
Nettle Leaf: a mineral-dense tonic that assists the kidneys in filtering waste products.
Taste Profile: Earthy and robust, opening with the natural sweetness of sarsaparilla and burdock, moving to a green note from nettle and finishing with a clean bitterness from dandelion and barberry.
Weight: 95g loose leaf (makes approximately 30 cups)
Format: Loose leaf, for a teapot or infuser
Caffeine: Caffeine-free
Additives: No added flavourings, colourings or preservatives
Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale), Barberry Root (Berberis vulgaris), Burdock Root (Arctium lappa), Sarsaparilla Root (Smilax ornata), Nettle Leaf (Urtica dioica).
Our Detox Tea fits easily into your post-meal daytime routine:
The Infusion Method: Add 1 teaspoon of the loose herbs into a teapot or an infuser cup. Pour freshly boiled water directly over the blend. Cover the container immediately and let the herbs steep for 10 - 15 minutes. Strain, let cool to an enjoyable temperature, and enjoy.
Bonus Infusion: You can reuse the exact same serving of herbs for a second cup later in the day by adding fresh boiling water.
When to Drink: 1 - 2 cups per day, taken shortly after breakfast or lunch to assist with midday digestion. Scale up to 3 cups per day during an intentional wellness reset.

A Daytime Ritual
Focus on Whole Foods: Build your daily meals around fresh, organic vegetables, cruciferous greens, seasonal fruits, and unprocessed whole grains.
Prioritise Daily Hydration: Drink at least 2 litres of clean fluids each day, which can include pure water and your Detox Tea.
Moderate Stimulants & Alcohol: Reduce your consumption of alcohol and heavy caffeine.
Engage in Daily Activity: Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day.
Support Your Inner Clock: Make consistent, restful sleep a priority. Your liver is highly active with internal maintenance and processing during your sleeping hours.
Dandelion root is one of the classic bitter roots of Western herbal practice, traditionally taken as a spring tonic and as a digestive bitter. It is the root Detox Tea is built on, with burdock, barberry, sarsaparilla and nettle.
The soft drink began as a country cordial made from these same two roots, so the association is real rather than coincidental. This is the roots themselves, brewed as a tea, without the sugar.
It is traditionally taken as a short course of two to four weeks rather than continuously, one to two cups daily.
This tea has been created by our Medical Herbalists to assist your body's natural liver and elimination networks. It brings together traditional roots and leaves that support the liver, kidneys, and lymphatic system in processing and clearing everyday metabolic waste.
We recommend drinking 1 cup shortly after breakfast or lunch to help stimulate your natural digestive enzymes. For daily maintenance, 1 to 2 cups is ideal, though you can increase this up to 3 cups a day during an intentional wellness reset.
If you are taking any prescribed medications, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider or reaching out to our Medical Herbalists at info@zenmaitri.com before use, as certain roots can influence how the liver processes medications.
No, this functional infusion contains specific bitter and clearing botanicals that are not recommended during pregnancy or lactation.
We choose loose-leaf cuts because standard paper tea bags often use finely ground herbal dust that quickly loses its volatile benefits. Many bags also contain hidden plastics, glues, or bleaches. Loose herbs keep the active plant compounds intact and encourage a more traditional brewing practice.
Put one teaspoon of loose herbs into an infuser cup or teapot and pour freshly boiled water over them. Make sure to cover the vessel with a lid while it steeps for 10–15 minutes so the beneficial properties don't escape with the steam. Strain, let it cool slightly, and enjoy.
A 95g bag provides approximately 30 servings, depending on how strong you like your tea. Because our loose roots are quite sturdy and dense, you can easily brew the same herbs a second time for another cup.
Yes, this blend is entirely caffeine-free and will not disturb your energy levels or sleep patterns.
Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding — barberry in particular is not suitable in pregnancy. Not suitable if you have gallstones or a bile duct obstruction. Speak to your doctor or one of our Medical Herbalists before use if you take any prescribed medicine.
While the active botanical compounds remain stable if the tea cools down, our medical herbalists recommend drinking it warm. Warm liquids support healthy circulation and are much gentler on sensitive internal systems, helping you get the most comfort from the herbs.
