Our Menstrual Support Tincture combines hormone-balancing herbs to provide comfort and relief throughout your period. This herbal blend is a great companion for navigating the shifts your body goes through each month. We hope it will help you embrace (and perhaps reconcile with) these natural monthly variations, by bringing balance to your mood, energy levels, hormonal changes and by easing period discomfort.
Cramp bark
Also known as guelder rose, cramp bark is very effective at alleviating painful cramps (as its name suggests!) and spasms, by relaxing muscles and blood vessels especially around the pelvic area. It relieves congestion of the uterus, helping the body to address any fibrous connective tissue growths attached to the wall of the womb (fibroids), abnormal tissue build-up in the womb (endometriosis), and abnormally heavy bleeding (menorrhagia). It is a mild sedative, and it gently soothes and tones the pelvic area.
Skullcap
Skullcap is rich in nutrients essential to a healthy nervous system. As a nerve tonic (a plant with a toning action on the nervous system), it helpfully eases tension and agitation, making it helpful for discomfort, spasms and headaches. This makes it particularly effective to support the body in relieving period discomfort, but also other symptoms often associated with premenstrual syndrome, such as tension, headaches, irritability and low mood.
Ginger
Consumed throughout the world for its wonderful healing properties, ginger provides aromatic warmth, stimulates circulation and reduces inflammation. It promotes blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body. It reduces the tendency to blood clotting and is excellent in all conditions associated with poor circulation. It therefore helps relieve any uterine congestion. It naturally soothes spasms and tension, making it helpful for period discomfort. It is also useful to ease nausea and indigestion.
Lemon balm
Lemon balm is deliciously refreshing and uplifting. It is relaxing, mildly sedative and can ease tension and may elevate the mood. It can be used for irregular periods and irritability in premenstrual syndrome.
Chamomile
Chamomile is a mild sedative, meaning that it gently eases restlessness and tension. As an antispasmodic, it helps with spasms and inflammation — helping to soothe period-related discomfort. It eases pre-menstrual headaches and the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. It is cooling and relaxing, and helps soothe stress-related digestive upsets.
Raspberry leaf
Rich in a wide range of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, raspberry leaf is a powerful astringent with specific affinity for the female reproductive system. It gently tones and strengthens the uterine and pelvic muscles, and has a powerful vulnerary action, meaning that it can aid the body in healing wounds internally and externally. It is used to help address in-between period bleeding, irregular periods, ovarian cysts and painful periods. It reduces cramps and spasms during periods, soothing discomfort.
Nettle leaf
Nettle is a great remineralizer for those on their periods. It is particularly nourishing, rich in vitamins A and C and minerals, particularly iron, calcium, silica, magnesium and potassium. All of these nutrients are essential for the maintenance of vibrant health and vitality. It can also help to ease heavy bleeding and increase haemoglobin levels, which is very important for those experiencing a heavy flow.
Rose
Rose has a soothing and uplifting aroma, and it is specifically helpful to relieve uterine congestion causing painful, heavy and irregular periods. Rose is relaxing and antispasmodic — it soothes menstrual cramps and premenstrual syndrome. Rose also supports a healthy gut flora and eases tension, irritability and fatigue.
This product contains chamomile, skullcap, raspberry leaf, cramp bark, nettle leaf, lemon balm, rose, ginger, purified water and ethyl alcohol.
Our Tinctures contain alcohol. Using alcohol enables us to effectively extract a wide range of constituents from plants. It also means that tinctures keep well - alcohol prevents the growth of bacteria and inhibits enzyme activity. Tinctures are easy to take and to carry around with you as you only need small amounts (generally of 2-3 teaspoons per day).
If you cannot or would not like to take alcohol in your medicine, please consider our herbal supplements or herbal teas within the same range and/or consult one of our medical herbalists so that they can devise a bespoke prescription for you. Please feel free to email us on info@zenmaitri.com if you have any questions.

To enhance the benefits of our Menstrual Support Tincture:
-
Cycle Awareness: Tracking your menstrual cycle can offer insights into mood changes, energy levels, and physical symptoms. This understanding can enable you to tailor self-care strategies to different phases of your cycle.
-
Gentle Exercise: Movement can alleviate menstrual cramps and promote endorphin release, which acts as a natural painkiller. Activities such as yoga, walking, or swimming can be particularly beneficial during menstruation.
-
Nutrition Focus: A diet rich in essential fatty acids, magnesium, and B vitamins can help mitigate menstrual symptoms. Prioritise foods like:
Leafy greens (for iron and magnesium)
Nuts and seeds (for magnesium and essential fatty acids)
Pulses and whole grains (for B vitamins and sustained energy)
Dark chocolate (for magnesium and mood enhancement)
-
Limit Processed Foods: Reduce the intake of processed foods, caffeine, and sugars which can exacerbate bloating and mood swings.
-
Mindful Relaxation: Engage in practices that ground and centre you. Meditation, deep breathing exercises, or even journaling can provide emotional relief and clarity.
-
Hydration: Water supports the body's natural processes, including detoxification. Drinking herbal teas, such as our Menstrual Support Tea, or simply chamomile or ginger tea, can also alleviate menstrual discomfort.
-
Warmth: Using a warm compress or heating pad on the abdomen can provide immediate relief from cramps.
-
Limit Stress: Chronic stress can exacerbate menstrual symptoms. Aim to find healthy outlets for stress, be it through hobbies, relaxation techniques, or spending time in nature.
-
Sleep: Ensure adequate sleep, as fatigue can amplify menstrual discomfort and mood swings.
