Shatavari is an adaptogenic herb that’s part of the asparagus family; its Latin name, Asparagus racemosa, translates as ‘wild asparagus’. Adaptogenic herbs support your body in coping with emotional and physical stress. Shatavari is used in Ayurvedic (Traditional Indian) medicine to assist with female hormone imbalances.

Funnily enough, ‘Shatavari’, a Sanskrit word, actually translates, as “having one hundred roots” or “having one hundred husbands”. The latter is a metaphor for its powerful influence on the reproductive system!

The Health Benefits of Shatavari Supplements

  • Shatavari has a Rasayana (rejuvenating) effect on the reproductive system, helping it function healthily. This benefits women of every age. In older women, it can help them transition into menopause. Perimenopause causes a reduction in oestrogen and Shatavari contains phytoestrogens, which are the precursor to estrogen. Shatavari can minimise the symptoms of perimenopause, like hot flashes and mood fluctuations.

  • In a 2015 study, Shatavari was shown to assist with reducing free radical damage, one of the main causes of wrinkles and fine lines.

  • For younger women, it supports healthy milk production postpartum and helps to maintain balanced hormones throughout the menstrual cycle. This can help reduce the impact of PMS, by easing symptoms such as mood swings and irritation.

  • It can also promote fertility and when used during pregnancy due to its nutritive properties as a source of nourishment.

  • It’s a general health tonic, promoting a healthy body and mind. In particular, it can help you maintain healthy bone density, making it an effective preventative measure against osteoporosis. Other benefits include boosting your immune system, promoting healthy digestion and reducing inflammation of the urinary tract.

  • Despite being most popularly used by women, Shatavari has many benefits for men too. It can stabilise mood, offer general health support and help with male fertility.

Our Shatavari Supplements are ideal if you want to boost the healthy functioning of your reproductive system. Maybe you’re trying to have a baby or going through hormonal fluctuations as part of the natural cycle of fertility. Either way, Shatavari Supplements are beneficial for your general health, hormones and reproductive system.
